We are leaving the busy Los Angeles lifestyle for an 80 acre ranch in Oklahoma. We will devote only about 3-5 acres to crop farming - the rest will remain forest or pasture for livestock. Because we are in our 50's we will need a strong horse (or pair) to help with the heavy work. I don't think there will be enough work to keep a true draft horse in shape, but I don't want machinery. Could a pair of Morgans pull wagons of hay, drag firewood, and plow and maintain 3-5 acres. I know they could help us with cattle, but will they be hurt if we try to use them for farm work too? We have teens and pre-teens who could ride and exercise the Morgans but you can't hop on a Clydesdale for a ride around the ranch. Or can you?
